Subject: Transcription of Additional Notes on Early Durbins in England
The following is derived from handwritten notes acquired from various Durbin
researchers in the 1980 era. The information was purportedly copied from
Mormon files in Salt Lake City. I am unaware of the LDS format and the notes
were codified with explanation. It appears that (c) = christening,
      (m) = marriage, (f) = father, (b) = born. In 1977, my wife, Lorraine, and I
visited several of the Somersetshire towns mentioned below, among which were
Bristol, Bath, Wells, and Cheddar, where we found references to Durbins in Library
files, including the names of Durbins who were among those listed as builders
of the ancient cathedral at Wells which we visited and took pictures.

###(The following information was acquired from Robert Ross Durbin,

St. Louis, MO, Personal Correspondence. Ross gleaned it from various genealogical
      abstracts published in England/Wales.)

      B) "Colonists in Bondage: White Servi tude and Convict Labor in America
      (1607 - 1776)" by A. E. Smith, University of North Carolina Press, 1947
      	-- "freedom dues"
              -- Nevis
1672: 10 pounds (sterling) "according to former custom"
1675: 800 lbs of sugar 1681: 400 lbs of sugar
1701: 400 lbs sugar or 50 shillings Rarely received. In colonies,
equipment freed servant for life as a hired man. Rewards in West Indies were
      practically useless.
"It is foolish to suppose that many persons of stable position in
England would come to the colonies as servants, especially in the earlier
      years."
          (W. Durbin Note: This is a very significant statement. Those who
had a bleak future in England, e.g. the dispossessed, the disinherited,
or those who would not inherit due to primogeniture were typical of those
      who emigrated.)
