Gallentine Cemetery, Springfield Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania

  "ABRAHAM GALLENTINE, a German, who served in the Revolution, came from Chambersburg, in 1801, 
settling in the northern part of Springfield Township, near the Salt Lick Township line, but 
subsequently lived at the Fayette Furnace. He was by trade a cooper, and died about 1830, 
upwards of eighty years of age. He had sons named DANIEL, JACOB, ABRAHAM and JOSEPH." "JACOB 
removed to McKeesport; ABRAHAM lived near the central part of Salt Lick Township, JOSEPH 
married SOPHIA WERRICK, and also lived in Salt Lick township, where he died in 1876, at 
the age of 85 years. He was the father of JOSEPH W. GALLENTINE, living on the old 
BENJAMIN DAVIS Farm, in Salt Lick Township, and other sons living at Scottdale, 
Westmoreland, County, Pennsylvania. 
"This small private cemetery is situated about one mile west of Davistown (on Pennsylvania 
Highway Route #711). Davistown is about one mile each way from the Indian Head Bridge, which 
crosses Indian Creek, and the Melcroft Railroad Crossing. These gravestone inscriptions were 
copied by the Misses Elsie Pearl and Helen J. Dix, Members of Braddock Trail Chapter, 
N. S. D. A. R., Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, on November 4th, 1947. [Transcribed for the

GALLENTINE, SUSANA.  Born October 7, 1818; died July 23rd, 1884.
        "Dearest Mother, though has left us
         For they happy home above."
GALLENTINE, A. L..  Born January 10, 1818; died July 9, 1890.
        "Weep not for me, my Soul is at rest
        But prepare dear friends to follow me."
The foot stones to both graves are inscribed with: A. L. G. andS. G. There are thirteen other 
head stones marking graves, but inscriptions are illegible. The Misses Dix report some are 
inscribed with the name "MILLER" thereon, but dates are illegible.
