John H. Courtwright Dec. 14, 1903
Again death has visited our community, and this time has called at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. James Courtwright, of McCracken, Pa., and claimed for its
victim their youngest child, John H. Courtwright, aged twenty years and four
months. He was taken ill of pneumonia, in October, and was confined to
his bed about a week, but he got better, and was well enough to walk out into
the yard, and we thought sure that Johnnie would get well, but our hopes were
blighted, for that dreadful disease, hasty consumption, conquered him,
and he grew weaker day by day, until December 14, 1903, when death relieved
him of his suffering.
Rev. J. M. Murray was with him on Saturday evening, and again on Sunday morning,
and talked with him, and he answered Mr. Murray without the least of fear,
and told him if the time had come he was not afraid to die.
And he also told him that he often thought of the little prayer his mother
taught him in childhood.
Johnnie was a kind and obedient boy, and will be sadly missed by his parents,
brother, and sisters, but we should not weep for him, but think him better off,
for his suffering is o'er. He leaves to mourn his death, father, mother, seven
sisters and one brother, besides a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Murray, at the Sugar Grove church,
December 15, 1903. His remains were laid to rest in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

In loving memory of Elliott Cumberledge, who passed away 2 years ago, March
18, 1969.
God watched you as you suffered
He knew you had your share,
He tenderly closed your weary eyes
And took you in His care.
In tears I saw you sinking
And watched you fade away,
It crushed my heart to know
God had taken you away.
But when I saw you sleeping
Peacefully free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
I often think of you
And speak of how you died,
To think you could not say goodbye
Before you closed your eyes.
Sadly missed by Wife Freda.

Cumberledge-In loving memory of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great grandmother,
Kitty Opal Cumberledge, who passed away 22 years ago, July 30, 1960.
What I would give if I could say,
I guess I'll go see mom today;
To hear her voice and see her smile,
To sit and talk with her awhile.
Those who have a Mother,
Treasurer her with care.
You never know her value
Till you see her empty chair.
You only have one Mother,
Patient, kind and true,
No other friend in all the world
Will be as true to you,
But when we saw her sleeping,
Peacefully, free from pain,
We could not wish her back.
To suffer that again.
I often think of how she died,
And could not say good bye.
For all of us she did her best,
May God grant her eternal rest.
Sadly missed and dearly Loved by Daughters, Sons-in-law, Grandchildren
and Great Grandchildren.
