Jnallen Riffle, a veteran merchant
of Uniontown and McClellandtown,
died at his home in McClellandtown,
Sunday morning, March 23, 1941 at
4:30 o'clock of a complication of
diseases. He was born in German
township, May 29, 1886 the son of
the late William A and Melissa
Coffman Riffle and spent virtually
his entire life in the vicinity of Mc-
Clellandtown.
He was a member of the Jacobs
Lutheran Church, Aeria 828 of
Eagles in Uniontown and Jr. 0. U. A.
M. Council No. 74 of McClelland-
town.
He married Oma B. Pike of Un-
iontown on February 6, 1917. She
and a daughter, Jean survive. An
infant died in 1919. Two sisters, Mrs.
William Hartley, and Mrs. John S.
Fuller of Carmichaels, also survive.
Friends are, being received at the

died yesterday in Uniontown
Hospital following a brief ill-

Dr. Riffle was born at Mc-
Clellandtown July 30, 1897, a son
of the late Edward H. and Em-
ma Newcomer Riffle.
He attended German Twp.
schools and West Virginia Uni-
versity, where he was a mem-
ber of Delta Tau Delta. After
graduating from Jefferson Med-
ical College of Philadelphia in
1922, Dr. Riffle interned at Al-
legheny General Hospital, Pitts-
burgh He was a member of the
Phi Rho Sigma Medical Frater-
nity at Jefferson.
The McClellandtown native
was a member of the American
Medical Assn., Pennsylvan-
ia State Medical Society, and
the Fayette. County Medical So-
ciety, where he served as presi-
dent in 1952.
Dr. Riffle was the physician
at German Twp. High School
the past 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, No-
la K. Moore Riffle: and four
children, Dr. George N. Riffle,
II, resident physician in Urolo-
gy at Jefferson Medical College,
Philadelphia; Kathryn Louise
Riffle, instructor in nursing at
Western Reserve University,
Cleveland, Ohio: Dr. John Ed-
ward Riffle, a captain in the
U. S. Army Medical Corps serv-
ing as a flight surgeon in Ko-
rea Robert M. Riffle, a gradu-
ate student at West Virginia
University, one granddaughter,
Susan Kathryn Riffle, Philadel-

Rev. Miller Sr.
Is Car Victim
A former area pastor, Rev.
John 0. Miller Sr., 79, was in-
jured fatally last Friday in a
traffic accident near Grove City.
Rev. Miller was backing from
a private driveway on Mercer
Rd. after making a call on an
ill member of his church when
his car was struck by another
automobile. He died at 5:15 p.m.
less than one hour after the ac-
cident, He was in the ministry
47 years.
He had served as pastor of
the Center United Presbyterian
Church, Grove City, for the past
16 years, held the pastorate of
Carmichaels Presbyterian
Church from 1926 to 1945. He
was a brother-in-law of Pearl
and Anne Hughes, Fairchance,
and uncle of A. N. Foster Jr.,
Uniontown.
Rev. Miller was an alumnus
of Mansfield, Ohio, High School
Class of 1902 and was graduated
from Princeton University in
1906 when the late President
Woodrow Wilson was president
of the university. He received
his divinity degree in, 1916 from
Western Theological Seminary,
Pittsburgh, where he won the
coveted Homoletic prize for his
sermon on the theme, "Is the
Young Man Absolem Safe?"
He was a son of Rev. D. D.
Miller, who served a pastorate
in Jacob's Lutheran Church,
German Twp.
Surviving are a son, Rev.
John O. Miller Jr., pastor of
Saltsburg U. P. Church; three
daughters, Mrs. Robert (Betsy
Jane) Orahood, Pittsburgh; Mrs.
Gildas (Anne) Davies, Grove
City; Mrs. William (Olive)
Street, Rochester, Ind.; 12
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild. Also surviving are

Methodist Hospital, Houston,

Mr. Sesler was assistant
plant manager for Union Car-
bide in Texas City, Tex. at the
time of his death.
He joined Union Carbide
after receiving his bachelor of
science degree from West
Virginia University.
A veteran of World War II,
he received his honorable dis-
charge from the U. S. Army in
November, 1956.
His first Union Carbide
assignment was as a staff
engineer in plant shipping
operations to improve and
modernize distribution
facilities and function in South
Charleston, W. Va.
A study he developed in
South Charleston led to his pa-
tent of a manual drum filling
device with fume exhaust and
drip control.
From January, 1959 to June,
1961, Mr. Sesler was depart
ment head of shipments and
planning.
From 1961 to 1965 he was
department head of bulk
materials handling and
responsible for management
of barge and river operations
and the North Charleston bulk
terminal.
In September, 1970 Mr.
Sesler transferred to the Tex-
as City plant as distribution
superintendent.
In March, 1974 he was ap-
pointed assistant manager of
the Texas City plant.
He is survived by his wife,
Bette Lee Hunt Sesler; the

PASSES AWAY,
BRIEF ILLNESS
Leonidas D. Woodfill, prominent
Fayette county educator and civil en-
gineer, died at his home, 10 Rist
street, Uniontown at 10:50 Tuesday
morning from septic poisoning. He
took sick with tonsilitis Saturday.
Mr. Woodfill would have been 78
years old this coming February 28th.
Mr. Woodfill taught school for 22
terms, starting In the little red school-
house at Farmington, Wharton town-
ship, and afterwards going to German
township. He was a son of Justice
of the Peace J. B. and Ellen Woodfill
of German township. It will be re-
membered that the deceased's father
lived to the age of 97 years.
Recently a medal of honor was con-
ferred upon Mr. Woodfill by the
Grangers of Pennsylvania for having
been a member of that order a period
of 50 years. He also received a pen-
sion from the state as a retired school
teacher. He was a member of the
Asbury M. E. church having professed
the Methodist faith at the M. E.
church of Smithfield 60 years ago.
Mr. Woodfill is survived by four
children, Rollin W., Lenore, Mrs.
Florence McClernan and Paul Wood-
fill. A sister, Miss Ida Woodfill, also
survives.

Passes Away
J. N. Yauger, 55, of Edenborn,
died yesterday morning in the
Uniontown Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1914,
the son of the late James Sr.
and Evanella Barnhart Yauger.
Married to the former
Virginia Whetsell, he was very
active in civic affairs.
He was the current president
of the German Twp. Lions Club,
a member of the
McClellandtown Vol. Fire Dept.,
Eagles Order No. 828 of Union-
town, Valley Lodge No. 459 of
Masontown, the Uniontown
Lodge of Perfection, the
Pittsburgh Canistory, a veteran
of World War II, a former
employe at Clyde Mine and a
current employe of the Bat-
taglini Motor Co. of LaBelle.
He was former member of the
McClellandtown Presbyterian
Church, where he was president
of the Men's Light and Law
Class, and a member of the
Jacobs Lutheran Church prior to
his death.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by three brothers,
Ewing of Uniontown, Harold of
Warren, Ohio, and Robert L. of
Pittsburgh. Also surviving are
several neices and nephews,
several aunts and one uncle.
Friends will be received in the
Sangston Funeral Home of
McClellandtown today from 3 to
4 and 7 to 10 p.m., Wednesday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. and
Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2
p.m., the hour of service.
Rev. Howard E. Brown will
officiate at funeral services.
Burial will follow in the family
plot at Church Hill Cemetery.
