Will of Thomas Durbin I, T.H. Durbin, of Richhill Township, Greene Registered June 8,1898 County, Pa., do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament, here by revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. And at first direct that my body be decently entered and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and relation in life. And as to such worldly estate as it both please God to attest me with. I dispose of the same as follows: First: I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible our of the first money that shall come into the hands of my representatives. In the first place, I will that my farm on which I live in Richhill Township, Greene County, Pa., shall be equally divided amongst my three children, namely, Silas Durbin, Benjamin F. Durbin, and Mary B. Durbin, my aforesaid heirs and to pay to Hughes Durbin, my son, seventy-five dollars in two years after my death, they are to pay unto my son, Joseph H. Durbin, seventy-five dollars, in four years after my death, they are to pay unto my daughters, Sarah J. Durbin now Donley and Hannah A. Durbin, now McKerrihan, twenty-five dollars each in four years from my death, they are to pay my grand-children heirs of my son, James Durbin deceased, namely. Thomas F. Durbin, one dollar, Resdonia Durbin Acheson, one dollar to be paid at in four years after my death. My two sons, Silas and Benjamin F. Durbin and Mary B. Durbin are to be pay one equal share of all my indebtedness, funeral expenses or all money without interest. Witness my hands and seal this 15th day of April 1897. History of Greene County, Pa., by Hanna About 1 1/2 miles below David Braddock's for many long years have resided the family of the Durbins. The original settlers consisted of four men viz: Stephen, Edward, Thomas and Benjamin. The children of Stephen were Joseph, Andrew and Stephen Jr. Also two daughters, Mariah and Sarah Jane. Edward married Matilda Finch. Their children were Lucy and Ellen. Thomas married Hannah Hughes. Their children were James, Thomas, Lucy and Hester Jane. Benjamin married Nancy Parnel. Their children were Thomas, Benjamin, Jane, Ruth, Sally, Amy, Polly, Nancy and Betty. Joseph (of Stephen) married Polly Durbin, his cousin. Their children were Lucinda, Nancy Jane, Lindsay, James, Sally, and Belle. Andrew (of Stephen) married Martha Bane. Their children were David, Andrew, Frank, and Lib.? Stephen (of Stephen) married Nancy Throckmorton. He was killed by a burning tree falling on him. Their children were Jane and Mary. Mariah remained single. Sarah Jane married Enos. Lucy (of Edward) remained single so far as is known. Ellen married Mr. Ashbrook. Benjamin (of Thomas) married Polly Dinsmore. Their children were Mary Anne, J. Harvey, Elizabeth Jane, Thomas, William and Ackison. James (of Thomas) married Lucretia Nuce. Their children were George, Oliver, Alonzo, James, Frank, Thomas, Leoline, Jefferson, and Willis. Thomas (of Thomas) married Casey Pettit. Their children were Hughes, Jan, Hannah Ann. Lucy (of Thomas) married George Rail. Their children were Thomas, Samuel, Hannah, Cassy, James, William, Benjamin, David, Mary Jane, George. History of Greene County By Bates Page 862, ENOCH DURBIN, retired farmer, Swart's Station, Penn., was born in Richhill Township, Greene County, July 24, 1820, a son of Stephen and Mary (nee McDonell), the former a native of Maryland. After marriage they resided in Richhill Township until their death. Enoch Durbin was united in marriage the first time in 1845, with Mary M. Stagner, born in Morris Township in 1819, a daughter of John and Mary Stagner. By this marriage Mr. Durbin is the father of four children-- Peter H., George W., Eliza J., wife of Thomas Iams; and John (deceased). Mrs. Durbin died May 27, 1866. Four years after her death, December 7, 1870, Mr. Durbin took for a second wife Eliza Hopkins, born January 27, 1818, on what was known as the old Hopkins farm, where she and family still reside. Her parents were Daniel and Esther (nee Johnson). The former was born in eastern Pennsylvania, November 27, 1782, and his wife in Washington County, November 8, 1787. They were married November 15, 1811, and settled in Maryland, then lived in Washington County, Penn., one year and moved to Greene County in 1816, remaining until their death. Mr. Hopkins died October 10, 1828, and his widow October 5, 1866. They were the parents of eight children, of whom six are living-- Margaret, Levi, Eliza, wife of subject of this sketch Samuel, Abigail, the wife of Rev. J.T. Riley, and Aranna. The deceased are William S. John J. Enoch Durbin has been a farmer all through life, and he, wife and sister-in-law are all members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Back Page 863, G.W. DURBIN, farmer, Sycamore, Penn., was born in Morris Township, Greene County, December 20, 1849, a son of Enoch and Mary Durbin (nee Stagner). His father and mother were natives of Richhill and Morris townships respectively. They remained in this county after their marriage, Mrs. Durbin departing this life in 1866. Sometime after her death Mr. Durbin contracted a second marriage with Miss Eliza Hopkins, and now resides in Washington Township, George W. Durbin chose as his life partner, September 11, 1875, Miss Jennie L. Fonner, who was born in Morris Township, November 4, 1854, a daughter of James and Eliza Fonner (nee Taylor). Her parents were natives of Greene County, where they were married and lived until Mr. Fonner's death, March 16, 1883. His widow is still living. To Mr. and Mrs. Durbin have been born five children-- James R., Lizzie B., Albert F., Charlie B. and Maggie E. Mr. Durbin is a farmer by occupation and has made that his life work. He is the possessor of a 100-acre farm on which he and family reside. Both he and wife are consistent members of the Bate's Fork Baptist Church; and he is a leading director of the school board, taking great interest in the educational affairs of the township.
