      Below is a copy of the Swan Coat of Arms, graciously supplied by cousin, Jeff.

      John SWAN, pioneer, (of Tenmile Country) was a son of John SWAN, who in 1722, bought
      a tract of land in Anne
      Arundel Co., Maryland, known as Evan's Range. The elder John SWAN
      had married about 1720, to the widow, Elizabeth (Greene
      ) Foster. Her first husband, John Foster,
      had died, leaving four sons, John, Richard, Thomas, and Hugh Foster. She then had two
      children by the Elder John SWAN, namely, a daughter, Comfort Swan, and a son, John SWAN,
      the pioneer, who was born about 1727."..."Though not a native of
      Virginia, John SWAN, Sr.,
      maintained an allegiance to that state long after the border had been settled."

       1.  John SWAN, elder, m. ca. 1720, widow, Elizabeth (Green) Foster. Their children:
           2.  i Comfort Swan.
         + 3. ii John SWAN (pioneer) b. 1721 d. 29-Dec.1799 Tombstone date, spelled Swon 
                 on stone aged 78 yrs. He married about 1744, to Elizabeth LUCAS d/o 
                 Charles and Elizabeth (EVANS) LUCAS) Go to Lucas) She died 17-Oct.1805, 
                 aged 83 yrs. and is buried with her husband in the Swan cemetery. 
                 She was probably the second owner of the Swan-Lucas Bible
      
       3. John SWAN, pioneer, b. 1721, d. 29-Dec.1799, m. ca. 1744 Elizabeth LUCASto,
                 who d. 17-Oct.1805. Their Children:
           4.  i John Swan, Jr. b. Maryland, 7-May.1744
                 (Bible record) d. while on way to Kentucky, about 
                 1782/3. His will in WB A. pp 11, in Harden Co. Ky. 
                 Will made 12-Sep.1780.
                 Probated 18-Feb.1783. m. Elizabeth Vanmeter 
                 (Mailto)
           5. ii Thomas Swan b. Maryland ca, 1747 (See Brumbough, Md. Records, pp 47.)
                 Will made 6-Jan.1779. Filed for probate in Monongalia 
                 Co. 6-Dec.1779. He m. a Vanmeter, probably a d/o 
                 Jacob and Letitia (Strode) Vanmeter. 
                 (Four children were named in his will.

           6.iii Charles Swan b. 1749 d. 25-Feb.1839, aged 83 yrs. and
                 14 days, m. Sarah Vanmeter b. 1758, d. 4-Jul.1825, 
                 aged 67 yrs. and 10 days. She was a d/o Henry and 
                 Martha Vanmeter, who as a child had accompanied the 
                 Swan-Hughes-Vanmeter Party to settle in the Tenmile

         + 7. iv Elizabeth SWAN b. 28-Feb.1751, d. at Jefferson, Pa., 
                 in 1825, m. 20-Feb.1770, Major Thomas HUGHES
                 b. 5-may.1749, died at Jefferson, 4-Feb.1823. My 
                 line.
           8.  v Richard Swan, b. 31-Jan.1752, d. 11-Feb.1823, m. 
                 Martha Vanmeter, b. 24-Dec.1754, d. 24-Oct.1836, d/o

           9. vi Sarah Swan b. Maryland, 24-Sep.1755, d. Howard Co., 
                 Missouri, 9-Feb.1838, m. at Fort Pitt, in 1775, 
                 Joseph Hughes, b. Maryland, 23-Sep.1753, d. at 
                 Estill, Missouri, 7-Feb.1837. He is buried at Mt. 
                 Pleasant Cemetery, near Glasgow, Missouri. For more

         10. vii Mary Swan, b. Maryland, m1. in Greene County, Samuel 
                 Moore, who died leaving one son. She m2. John 
                 Isaacs and settled in Kentucky. For

         11.viii Martha Swan, b. ca. 1760, d. in Howard County, Missouri, m. 
                 at Fort Pitt, 1783, William Hughes, brother of 
                 Joseph. He was b. 23-Sep.1760 and d. in Howard Co., 
                 Missouri, 10-Jan.1828. (Photostat of a letter from 
                 him to Charles Swan written in 1817, in which he 
                 inquires of the health of his older brother Nate. It

         12.  ix William Swan, b. 1762 d. 25-Dec.1835, aged 73 yrs., 5 
                 mo., 29 days, m. ca 1782, Sarah Harrod, b. 3-Aug.1766, 
                 d. 16-Nov.1822, d/o Capt. William and Amelia 
                 (Stephens) Harrod. Both are buried
